The good stuff

What really clicked for me was the "This" tab. I selected a button that looked normal, but when I checked its properties, it showed me all the styles and attributes applied - including ones that were null. That kind of detail helps you understand why something isn’t behaving as expected. Like, I finally saw why my hover effect wasn’t triggering - one style was being overridden by a parent element, and the tool showed me exactly which one. The DHTML view was also a nice surprise. It shows you the final DOM after scripts run, which is way more useful than just staring at raw HTML.

And yeah, the Forms and CSS tabs are clean and readable. You can expand each section to see the full source, no frantic scrolling. If you’re trying to reverse-engineer how a form validation works or why a layout breaks on mobile, this gives you a direct path into the structure.

The not-so-good

But here’s the catch - it only works with Internet Explorer. That’s a dealbreaker for most people these days. I use Chrome mostly, so I had to fire up IE just to use this. And even then, it feels like a relic. No updates, no modern UI, nothing fancy. Also, since it’s tied to IE, you’re locked into an outdated browser environment. If you’re not already using IE for legacy testing, you probably won’t want to install this just for PageSpy.

It’s also free, which is nice, but the lack of downloads or official tracking makes it feel like a ghost project. Still, if you’re doing front-end work and need quick access to live element data without opening DevTools, it’s surprisingly solid for what it is.

Bottom line

If you’re learning web development and occasionally need to inspect elements in IE, PageSpy - Download for Windows is worth the download. But if you’re on Chrome or Firefox, skip it. It’s niche, old-school, and not built for today’s browsers. For the right person, though, it’s a quiet lifesaver.
