The good stuff

Man, the customization options are surprisingly solid for something free. You can pick your city and country, plug in your OpenWeatherMap API key (which is also free), and choose between a compact view or a three-day forecast. I went with the detailed version because I wanted to show temps, humidity, and wind - all in one neat little block. The color themes for day and night are a nice touch too. It automatically switches based on time, which felt kinda smart. And hey, it even caches data, so your site doesn’t get hammered every time someone visits. I noticed a slight lag when I first added it, but after a few hours, it settled in. Also, the CSS output is clean - didn’t mess up my theme’s styling much, which is a win since that’s usually where these things go sideways.

The not-so-good

It’s not perfect. If you try to use multiple instances of the widget in the same post or page, it gets weird - only one shows up, and the rest vanish. That’s a bummer if you’re trying to display weather for different cities. Also, the plugin doesn’t support shortcodes beyond a single instance, so if you’re doing something fancy with layout, you’ll hit a wall. And yeah, it’s not exactly flashy - no animations or moving icons. But honestly, I don’t need that. Still, the lack of documentation on how to troubleshoot issues if the API key stops working is annoying. There’s no clear error message. Just… nothing. You have to dig into the logs yourself.

Bottom line

If you’re running a personal blog or small site and just want a no-fuss weather update that doesn’t break your theme, the ICIT Weather Widget for WordPress is worth a shot. It’s free, it works, and it does what it promises without overcomplicating things. But skip it if you need multiple widgets or advanced formatting. No bells and whistles, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. Bottom line - give it a try, especially if you’re already using OpenWeatherMap. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’ll do the job.
