The good stuff

First off, the syntax highlighting is actually reliable. I’ve used it for PHP and HTML, and it colors things correctly without needing tons of setup. The integrated web browser is kind of a weird throwback, but it works for basic previews-especially if you’re doing quick HTML edits and don’t want to switch tabs. And the FTP feature? That’s the real MVP. You can connect directly from the editor, save files right to your server, and see changes instantly. Super handy for front-end work where you’re constantly uploading. Also, the search and replace with regex support? Nice touch. I once fixed 30 broken URLs in a file in under a minute. Boom.

The not-so-good

But here’s the catch-it’s Windows-only. If you’re on Mac or Linux, this isn’t an option. And the internal browser? It uses an old rendering engine, so modern CSS or JavaScript might look totally off. I tried previewing a React component once, and it broke in ways that made me question my life choices. Also, no debugging tools, no Git integration, no auto-completion beyond basic keywords. If you’re building anything complex, you’ll hit walls fast. And yeah, it’s not updated often-last version was like… five years ago? Still works, but it feels like it’s waiting to be forgotten.

Bottom line

If you’re on Windows and need a no-frills, free text editor for light web dev work, EditPlus - Download for Windows is worth a try. It’s not going to replace VS Code or Sublime, but it’s fast, stable, and does what it promises. Just don’t expect modern features. If you’re serious about full-stack development, skip it. But for quick edits, FTP access, and clean syntax highlighting? Yeah, go ahead and grab it. Free, simple, and still functional.
